MoonZoo - (Italian )

As stated in previous posts the information, in Italy, derived from Galaxy Zoo project, are not widely used ad esclusione di scarni trafiletti sul alcune riviste e siti specializzati. Ho così pensato, come fatto in precedenza, di scrivere un post solo in Italiano.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As just said in previous posts the information, in Italy, on project derived from GalaxyZoo are not very common except little article on som e specialized magazines and websites.I thougth so, as before, to write a post only in Italian.

The latest project in time to be introduced in Zooniverse is MoonZoo .

The purpose is to conduct mapping of lunar craters, both in number and size, from a predetermined minimum size, is based on some characteristics, such as the presence of facilities or special colors, any linear structures or any objects derived from space exploration.

The images have a resolution particularly high being taken from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) .
The LRO is a probe into orbit around the Moon, launched in 2009 with the aim of providing the first accurate three-dimensional map of the Moon. It carries several instruments and in particular three cameras: two cameras and a Wide Angle Narrow Angle Camera. From these images were taken of Moon Zoo.

The images are of particular fascination, at least for me, making me come back to mind the hours spent, especially as a boy, to observe the Earth's satellite, the first with the naked eye, with binoculars and then finally through a telescope.

The project includes two types of classifications.
An example of a Survey (Credit: MoonZoo)
The first called "Crater Survey" (Survey of Craters) is based on the presentation of an image in which must be selected craters larger than a circle measurement date, size using the mouse. E 'can then mark through a rectangular dial, special areas and indicate what they contain.
In particular, you can specify:
- Space Wreck (Spacecraft Hardware);
- Characteristics of Craters (Craters):
Terrace / Picchi / Dishes (Bench / Mound / Flat);

dark Alone (Black Haloed)

Recent Bianchi (Fresh White);

Elongate Borders (Elongated Pits)
- Linear Structures (Linear Features) : Traces of Massi (Boulder Tracks);
crater chains (Crater Chain);

sinuous channels (Channels sinuous);

Other Linear Structures (Other Linear Feauture)
- Other (Other).

Here are some examples.

Crater Recent White (Credit: MoonZoo - NASA)
Traces of Massi (Credit: MoonZoo - NASA)

E 'can also indicate whether a crater contains rocks and if few in number (Some) or many (many).

The other type of classification is the "Boulder Wars" (Massi War) in which two images are presented simultaneously to allow their comparison and decide which has more mass or if not present in neither. Before making a choice here you can also select particular areas flagged characteristics listed above.

related to the project there are a Forum and a Blog dedicated. In
Forum you can put questions and curiosity as reported in Blog you can follow the evolution of the project.

Particularly relevant pages dedicated to the study of the Moon from which you can learn many facts about its formation, structure and composition.

In conclusion a particular project and of very different character from the previous rating projects. The images, as already mentioned, are particularly interesting and also very variable depending dellla light conditions in which they were taken.

The Board, as always, is to try and certainly will not be disappointed.

Half65.
