In 1864 he published, as the compendium publication of Speke on their journey, A Walk across Africa , which addressed both issues of ordinary life, habits and feelings of the natives with whom he came in contact to both economic considerations on 
The same year the Royal Geographical Society in London awarded him a medal of merit, something that will pave the way for many other awards.
In 1865 Grant married and returned to live in the town of Nairn, where it will move temporarily to participate only as a consultant to the shipment of ' Abyssinia.
He died in his hometown 's February 11, 1892
