Sursum rope .....

still on the ropes for our beloved acoustic. Last year I tried a little of everything '. To reiterate that the choice of strings is, as always, entirely personal. And it reaffirms that I like always, and especially the strings bronze / phosphor. I still wanted to try to widen the choice and use any brand / type / different gauge.
I must say right away that light from the past are almost exclusive use of extra-light. I mounted on the guitar strings with progressively scaling .10/.47 or .11/.50 max. I feel very comfortable there. The volume of sound does not is a problem, indeed I must say that I have found so big difference with .12/.53 that I used before. And the stress imposed by the strings at the bridge and the table decreases. One of my favorite brands of strings has always been that I've replaced with Adamas 1818E 1717E scaling which I joined the SIT and the Pyramid (made in Germany) that I have to say that immediately I was very impressed with the quality / price. Moreover, Earthtone Kerly mounted on Custom Balladeer playing very well. Among the Italian occasionally use the Dogal. Strings are very sophisticated and well constructed. The Legend really make a good impression. As well as the Austrian Thomastik. I also wanted
groped the adventure of the strings "handmade". I have recently taken the DR sunbeam and a set of R. Coconut (also scaling .11/.50). I have not mounted yet. I can not decide which guitar would sound better. We'll see.

1537 ....

That is the first Elite Ovation at home, that all fans is universally considered the "Elite" for excellence. As I recall, until the introduction dell'Adamas (1976-77) stopped the range Ovation Custom Legend and Legend models. But soon after conceived the idea to market another top-end guitar that had the same characteristics but with the Adamas top wood. For some documents, recently made available to fans from a former employee of Ovation, which shows the design for the new guitar was given the name "Super Legend". It was 1980 and those that follow are the main features that were proposed for the new model: 6 and 12 string and 6 string cutaway cutaway not all just acoustic / electric. Classic 5-piece neck, which is identical to that of 'Adamas II but with the logo and Ovation keyboard soaked in walnut with satin finish (it was also thought glossy variant). New all'Adamas similar inlays, 22 frets, bone nut and mechanical chrome. Had already been made a version with black gloss and mechanical fret maple neck and (later on rotroviamo elite higher).
The bowl should be brown (at that time the agreement was that the guitar with natural top bowl should have the brown and other colors, namely black, white, sunburst, contemplating a bowl black rule then differentiated into a sea of \u200b\u200bexceptions ...). The top was spruce bracing quintad style in Adamas and with only 2 colors offered, natural and sunburst, with a glossy finish. Had not yet been decided whether the bridge would be Ovation Adamas II or type, so also were not taken decisions on the key tone / volume, color dell'epaulettes for the strap-button and the binding & purfling (proposed ABS). After a couple of years of development, in 1982 it was decided to keep many of the initial configuration and make the new guitar even more original, using maple & birch for binding & purfling and use some of the solutions already on the model Anniversary. The fact is that the development led to the creation of a truly original and refined model among fans, often abbreviated to 1537, built the factory in Moosup.
Another feature worthy of note that makes this guitar, and the entire elite, unique, is to have a layer of birch glued on top of the top (visible only from within, of course) with a plywood bonding type at 90 ° to the fibers of wooden top (see first photo above), which was added to reinforce the stress out of the top 22 holes and that (apparently) makes the "high" most crystalline:). This type of reinforcement in the areas of holes, which is comparable to that of 1537, it is also found on the LX series of modern elite.
Between 1983 and 1984 were manufactured around 1400 guitars model 1537 in Moosup, when production was moved to New Hartford and production Elite was the beginning!

I added 2 pics of the first proto with spruce top, Adamas (the second and third photo from top).
