Solar Stormwatch - Italian

As stated in previous posts the information, Italy, derived from Galaxy Zoo project, are not widely used except for skinny sidebars on some magazines and specialized websites. I thought so, as before, write a post only in Italian.

just As Said in previous posts the information, in Italy, on project derived from GalaxyZoo are not very common except little article on Some Specialized magazines and websites.I thougth I know, as before, to write a post only in Italian.

Another project particularly interesting and very different character from the previous classification of projects is certainly made up of the Solar Stormwatch.

This time to be studied is our Sun and solar storms in particular (Solar Storm).

Solar storms are the massive explosions of high-energy particles, which occur in the solar corona, able to project into space up to 10 billion tons. These storms can create serious health and damage or destroy satellites or cause power outages on Earth. They are also extremely dangerous for astronauts, especially if engaged in extravehicular activity.

Despite the very high speed, about 1.6 million km / h, using 3 to 4 days to reach our planet, having to cover a distance of about 150 million km

This time is sufficient to identify the phenomenon and raise the alarm.

The project is based on data provided by the STEREO mission
(Solar TErrestrial Relations Observatory) which is in its probes of observation, almost identical, placed in Earth orbit Lagrangian points L4 and L5, in a more advanced position than the planet (AHEAD - L4) and the other in rearward (BEHIND - L5) to provide a three-dimensional view of our star.

Participants are required to view movies, referring to historical data, which show images of the two simultaneously dlele sensors (SPOT) and to identify in them the presence of solar flares indicate whether they appear only in one (ahead or behind) or both (Booth) and, if present, provide other details such as the beginning of the problem or reaching a certain position.

E 'also required (WHAT'S THAT) to detect the presence of other optical phenomena (Optical Effect) or comet (Comet) or particle (Particle Strike).

E 'then this option to view the images almost in real time (INCOMING!) and identify any storms coming.

The films presented are of particular interest not only from a scientific point of view but also spectacular. I found particularly fascinating movies in which they appear comets.

As with other projects is a section from which to learn how to do the analysis. In particular, there are some movies that enables rapid understanding of the task ahead.

Even for this project are a Forum and a Blog dedicated in which to ask questions and curiosity, or follow the progress of studies by researchers directly.

As usual the advice is to try.
